The Setup

Potatoes

First, you will need to preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.

While it warms up, cut your potatoes in fries or wedges size.

Prepare a cooking sheet, then…

Chefs Plate suggestion

Place the fries on a baking sheet, put a tbsp of oil over the fries and sprinkle salt and pepper.

Better suggestion

Take a big bowl, put the cut potatoes in it and pour some olive oil on top. Mix with your hands (or wooden spoon) until the fries are all coated.

Pour a quarter of the Chili-Cumin Spice Blend on top with some salt and pepper. Mix again all together and place on a baking sheet.

Roast the potatoes in the middle of the oven for 25 to 30 minutes and flip around mid-time (flip at 15 minutes) I like my fries super crisp, sometimes I will keep them up to 35+ minutes.

Onions

While your potatoes roast, cut the onion in nice little dice then…

Chefs Plate suggestion

Cook the onion in a non-sticky pan for 4-5 minutes then add the beef, tomato base, remaining chilli-cumin Spice and chipotle powder.

Ewww. Dirty beef fat.

Better suggestion

WAIT. If you don’t want all the fat from the beef (which is a lot), I strongly suggest to cook thoroughly the beef by itself, putting it aside and draining the fat.

Make sure you cook thoroughly the beef at a minimum of 155F to prevent potential food poisoning.

Keep a little bit of the fat in the pan and now start cooking the diced onion. You’ll thank me later!

When the onion gets translucid, add the cooked beef and proceed with the normal steps as per recipe: ketchup, tomato sauce base, etc.

Chipotle Powder

A piece of advice, this is quite spicy. If you are cooking for a little one or a person who doesn’t eat hot spices, make sure to separate a portion with no chipotle.

Mayo Sauce

Proceed as per the recipe, nothing special to add here.

Hamburger Buns

When you pull your potatoes out of the oven, shut it down and place the buns on the top grill inside.

Make sure to pay attention so they don’t burn. I will brush a little bit of olive oil on the white side as it makes a nice golden colour while remaining soft.

The Result

Take the mix and put it in the buns. You may or may not include the spinach, but why not? It’s there.

Spread a little bit of special mayo on top of the mix and that’s it, you have your meal ready.

Facts: Sorry if it looks so messed up.

I totally forgot to take a picture of it before starting to eat. I had to scramble to put it back together somehow!

Thanks to my 3-year-old son who keeps pressuring me to get the food ready!

Honest Review

Actual time to make: 50 minutes

It was so good. What else to say?

PROS:

-The juiciness and the sweet and bold flavour of meat blended with the spices with the special mayo is amazing, let alone the aroma that will linger in the house while and after you cook the meal.

It is really simple to make and little ones will love that.

Prepare lots of napkins, just sayin’

CONS:

-I would have loved much more of that mayo so I could have drowned my fries in it! It seems that 2 persons and a kid, were fighting for the last bit of the mayo sauce.

-The chipotle powder is super hot. You may ruin your meal if you are not into spice. They should clearly mention to be careful and to test it out before.

I would definitely redo it again and again. It’s a 5 stars for me.
