What are BCAA gummies?
They are used as dietary supplements.
They are a type of essential amino acid that helps build muscle post-workout, decrease fatigue, and improve exercise performance.
The three types of amino acids
Leucine, isoleucine, and valine.
These three (3) compounds are important for promoting muscle growth and providing energy to the body during physical activity. You can also use them as part of your pre-workout supplements, while you work out at the gym, or post-workout for faster recovery.
They can also help reduce muscle soreness after exercise and boost recovery time. A gummy typically comes in a variety of flavours, such as fruit, candy, and sour and some come unflavored. It can even come as a gummy worm.
As mentioned above, they can be taken before or after workouts, depending on the individual’s needs. The gummies are a convenient way to get the necessary daily nutrients for optimal health, energy, and performance.
How to incorporate BCAA gummies into your diet
To build muscles:
For those looking to build muscle, gummies can be taken before a workout to provide energy and help with recovery post-workout.
For endurance:
For those looking to reduce fatigue and improve endurance, they can be taken after a workout to help with muscle recovery.
Just to complete your daily intake
Additionally, they can be taken any time of the day as an easy and convenient way to get essential amino acids into your diet.
Muscle Protein Synthesis and Branched Chain Amino Acids
Muscle protein synthesis is the process by which the body builds new proteins to repair and grow muscle tissue.
Branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) in the “gummies” play a crucial role in muscle protein synthesis and are often used as supplements to enhance muscle growth and recovery.
Read the extensive explanation and research (not on gummies) at ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
There is a strong correlation between muscle protein synthesis and BCAAs.
Leucine, in particular, has been shown to stimulate muscle protein synthesis by activating a signalling pathway called the mTOR pathway.
(Good luck understanding that schema!)

This pathway is involved in the regulation of protein synthesis and is sensitive to the levels of leucine and other amino acids in the body.

Should Vegans Take BCAAs
One of the most popular questions among vegan athletes is whether should vegans take branched-chain amino acids.
The good news is, yes, vegans should absolutely consider taking BCAA supplements. It can be difficult to get all the essential amino acids from only plant-based sources, and supplementing with them can help make sure you have a complete range of amino to fuel your muscles.
Plus, there are now plenty of vegan-friendly options on the market. I found one for you above.
Make sure to consult your healthcare provider before starting any kind of supplement to ensure it’s right for you – then you can enjoy feeling your best!
Possible Side effects of gummies
Although they are a popular alternative to traditional protein powders, they come with their own set of potential side effects.
The most common side effect is gastrointestinal discomfort, which can include nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea.
This is usually caused by the high amount of sugar in the gummies, so it’s best to stick to lower-sugar or free options.
Other potential side effects include increased heart rate and increased blood pressure, so those with existing heart conditions should always speak to their doctor before using the gummies. Additionally, the amino acid gummies can cause dehydration, so it’s important to make sure you drink plenty of water when taking them.
Dosage and safety considerations
It is important to take the proper dosage and to consider any safety considerations. Read the instructions on the jar or the package before you purchase it to make sure this will suit your needs.
Additionally, those with certain medical conditions or who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take BCAAs without consulting their doctor.

Homemade BCAA Gummies Recipe
Here is my favourite recipe I always do,
Ingredients:
- 250ml (1 cup) of fruit juice 2 tbsp
- (30ml) maple syrup or honey 4 tbsp
- (60ml) powdered gelatin (use agar-agar if you are vegan)
- 3 scoops (15g) of your favourite flavour BCAA energy powder
Steps:
👉In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the maple syrup and your favourite juice. When it begins to simmer, reduce to low heat and whisk in the gelatin gradually until fully dissolved.
👉After the gelatin has dissolved, remove the saucepan from the heat and pour the mixture into a shaker. Add in the powder and mix it until the blend has completely dissolved.
👉Pour the liquid into a gummy bear, gummy worm or a simple ice cube mould and place it in the freezer for 10-15 minutes until the gummies have set.
👉To preserve the recipe once set, pop them out of the moulds and store them in a tight container in the fridge. I do not keep them for more than 7 days usually.
I would recommend keeping them away from kids.
Enjoy! They disappear fast!
In a Nutshell
BCAA gummies are a convenient, easy way to make sure you’re getting all the essential amino acids your body needs.
With so many brands and flavours on the market, there’s sure to be one that’s perfect for you.
If you’re a vegan athlete, it’s especially important to make sure you’re getting enough of them via supplementing.
As with any supplement, it is important to consult with your doctor or nutritionist to ensure you are taking the proper dosage for your individual needs.
